Poverty can seem to many like a problem without progress especially in the current climate of economic crisis and flat-lining aid budgets. In recent months, the idea of a financial transaction tax (also being called a Robin Hood tax) has surfaced and is gaining increased interest and attention as a means to generate revenue to meet public deficits and debts in the North but also to increase the North's spending on aid, particularly the Millennium Development Goals. This call discusses the origins, merits and current interest in a financial transaction tax.
